The Emerging Languages

By Lenore Caytiles

Nothing to do on a rainy morning
Wanted to do some gardening
But remembered my nurse's warning
To be careful, to stay away from rain
Cold you might catch which doctors might declare
Its the dreaded covid, so beware.

Stood by the window watching the raindrops falling
The light pitter-patter then heavy rain started pouring
The light sound turned so loud
Like people in a market who kept shouting
To lure people to buy wares they were selling

Turned my gaze to the branches of trees with leaves swaying, shaking, nodding
By their movements leaves seemed to be talking
Sometimes so loud, sometines just whispering
This must be the language that farmers love to listen to as they keep dreaming
For the bountiful harvest the rice fields would bring.

Ah, this must be the language called Rain.
The language called Rain.

Living next door is my grandchild who loves cats
Has a pet cat which she cuddles every morning
On this rainy morning her cat stayed in an empty barn.
Soon when the rain was light more cats came around.

I watched them curiously as they started to move slowly, then fast and jumped up and down
As they moved, they made some sound
In a language I have no knowledge and it's worth I haven't found.

An old cat stayed alone in a corner purring and purring
Never ending, sounding like a crazy woman
Who keeps talking senselessly
Like Sisa, she must be looking for her Basilio and Crispin
And true, the purrs turned to soft sounds of pin-pin-pinnnn
The last pinnnn turned to a wail of a woman lamenting over the loss of a dear soul.

The other cats growled so loud
In a language which meant to drive that cat away
The old cat didn't want to take leave and made the other cats so mad
Acted in a manner so bad
Growled so loud which made the old cat fear
Away she must stay for thoughts of death she couldn't bear..

The other cats impatiently
Chased the old cat and soon a loud sound was heard
There must be a wild fight among the cats
To end with cuts and scratches which no cat was spared.

Only two cats were left, lovers they might be
Started some light talk while sweetly caressing each other
In the cats' language, they might be making promises
How sweet they looked as they showered each other with kisses.

I had to take a leave for I must cook my meal
But startled when I heard the two cats sounding like they were ill
Are they lovers no more as they must be quarreling ?
Wierd sounds, like in pain but they seemed to be enjoying.

Ah, this must be the language called Cats
The language called Cats.

Turned to my cooking with these thoughts in my mind
Changes do happen in anything you could imagine
Come to think of it, this could be among the changes life would bring.
And we must be ready to embrace it or throw it in a bin.

Some languages could be dead, Some languages could be emerging.
Like the language called Rain
Like the language called Cats

It might take two genius people to discover
The ABC's of the emerging languages and how these would be delivered
The emerging languages of Nowhere Land
Where lived Sisa and her famous band.
