TAPESTRY OF THE FILIPINO SOCIETY

EDITOR/COLUMNIST By Caloy Bueno  ðŸ”°ðŸ‘“📚📰📂💻   It can't be denied that the younger generation parents today have a tougher time disciplining their kids. (And probably even they themselves are having a tough time with their own discipline!) In the Internet age, there are a lot of cross-cultural influences, and add to that the general loosening of values and social norms in our society ~ and thus we get a recipe for a gradual (but pronounced) decline in our society's traditional Filipino way of life. The traditional Filipino way of life had always meant (at least for the older generations) that home was where our moral compass always pointed to as "true north" ~ and the "rock" sanctuary of our personal character and ethical behavior. But modern times have buffeted all homes with the irresistible winds of change ~ and the most affected are the younger generations because of their normal lack of stability, motivated by their felt compulsion or natural inclinati...

500 YEARS GIFT OF SLAVERY

EDITOR/COLUMNIST By Caloy Bueno  ðŸ”°ðŸ‘“📚📰📂💻 There are between 2.4 to 2.5 billion Christians in the world today, including about 1.3 billion Roman Catholics. We are observing this year the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines ~ supposedly brought by Ferdinand Magellan when his expedition arrived on March 16, 1521 from across the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans over a one-and-half-year voyage ~ celebrating a thanksgiving mass on Limasawa Island off Samar and Leyte, then finding his way to Cebu where he converted Rajah Humabon and his tribe to Catholicism. Cebu is where he planted the first Christian cross ~ and got himself nailed to it by Lapu-lapu (supposedly the chieftain of Mactan island just across a narrow channel from Cebu), who refused to be conned by the Spanish conquistadores with either the cross or cowed by their swords and guns, plus cannons.   When Magellan died, Juan Sebastian Elcano took over Magellan's expedition ~ and made it back to Spain, thus compl...

BELIEF Vs RESPECT

EDITOR/COLUMNIST By Caloy Bueno  ðŸ”°ðŸ‘“📚📰📂💻 Note  The death of... has divided the nation again. "...beliefs form the framework and operate the interstitial elements that inform and compose an individual's character and behavior in life." Yet, on the author's final analysis, he writes: "Our beliefs either fuck up our ability to think, or enable us to more clearly see and discern what is true, or noble, or worthy, or real." #PagMayTime ~  By Caloy Bueno The thing about beliefs is that no one can fault nor assail anyone else for having such beliefs ~ beliefs are personal and, more often than not, beyond the power of reason (particularly from anyone else) to dislodge or shake from the individual's grasp and dedication. Religion, politics, economic (business) practices, social norms and values, etc. ~ these are the stuff that beliefs are made of, and these beliefs form the framework and operate the interstitial elements that inform and compose an individual...

Foreword  I have known Caloy through Facebook via Elsie. He is an eloquent communicator - clear and precise in his  communication skills. Experience has broadened his horizon and his columnist style of opinions are much appreciated and highly respected by social media community.  by Caloy Bueno #PagMayTime ~ June 9, 2021 Leadership is not about having intelligence alone. Nor is it about having wealth and influence alone. Or even less, stupid good looks and a glamorous personality. Actual experience in governance is a good thing ~ but IF AND ONLY IF such government experience is irreproachable and proven to be really beneficial to the constituents, who could readily vouch for the effectiveness and faithfulness of such public service experience. Why? because the top leadership position is very ...
