ACTS OF DESPERATION
By Donald Borja Sevilla
Now that President Duterte has proven his mettle, the opposition has resorted to finding fault even with the most trivial of things. They continue to criticize him at every turn that it becomes clear what their motives really are.
When reading the news articles from the mainstream sources, one can feel a sense of desperation in that they are forcing the issue of EJKs even though no significant discussions were made on the subject. They couldn't bring the good news from the bilateral talks straight to our people without infusing their own bias reporting.
So much has happened to our country for the past few days in terms of trade agreements, landmark legislation and aid commitments signed, not withstanding the fact that our successsful ASEAN hosting has boosted morale and national pride.
The Philippines is at an all-time high and we should savor the moment, yet careful to keep the momentum so as to use it to our advantage. We should never rest on our laurels but use it às an inspiration to work harder for the country's good.
While sad that there are others who cannot accept our success and come to terms with it, our people should have learned by now to see through the lies and fake news being peddled around.
To insinuate that a "keyboard" army is being paid and maintained to prop up the President's ratings is a gross insult to the millions of our people who voted for him. To make things more convincing, wild accusations such as these are being made by foreign groups and entities, but at whose behest?
Clearly then the forces resisting meaningful change in our country are those whose interests are threatened by an impending social upheaval and systems' overhaul. We should be wary of them.
All the more we should close ranks and protect our national interest, putting others before self and God above all else.
