ADOPTING A KID

How much does it cost to maintain a dog? 
How much does it cost to feed an orphan? 
What joy a kid must bring
to a childless couple!
What joy must a dog bring
to a lonely man!

Between a kid and another kid of a higher breed,
men have chosen to adopt 
dogs and made their beds.
Pampered, bathed, groomed,
and dutifully fed.
Many children are left hungry,
abandoned and uncared, while bred dogs are vaccinated,
more than kids, are lovingly held
While abandoned kids
are left to play in the streets
with their own kind,
the askals and pusakals,
left to their own devices,
and share amongst
themselves left-overs
salvaged from garbage bins.

In a world where dogs
make better friends,
a human soul is left
hungry and abandoned
