Throwback to Yogyakarta, Indonesia... as RP representative to the ASEAN Experts Group Meeting on Poverty Alleviation (1997)

The only time I ever went out of the country, back in 1997. It was to represent our country along with Chito Novales (formerly of the defunct PCFP ~ he was the one who took this picture at the Jakarta International Airport, when we were on our way home) in the ASEAN Experts Group Meeting on Poverty Alleviation. The conference was an offshoot of the senior ASEAN ministers' meeting earlier that same year, to present and discuss all the different ASEAN thrusts and efforts particularly on the rural poverty situation in the region.
 
The only memorable thing for me that entire time was when the Malaysian deputy minister, who was the confab's presiding chairman, came by after the first day's preliminary meeting just to say to me and Chito at breakfast the next day ~ that as I was reading aloud for the whole conference the official communique to the ASEAN mass media, they all thought that they were listening to the Discovery Channel! 🤪😂😁🤣😜
