In 1927 Carl Evert Nathurst became head of the Philippine Police Force with the rank of brigadier general. In 1932 he left active service. Lived as a pensioner in Manila. When the Japanese occupied the Philippines in 1942 he and his family were held captive. He together with his wife, Lillian Gwinne Trego and daughter died in the prison barracks, when the Japanese set fire to it after the American landing in 1945.
