WHEN A LION GROWLS!

The merger between ABS-CBN and TV-5 is now dead in the water. It was like a jetliner blown into pieces by smart bombs long before it can take off the airstrip 

Thanks to General Marcoleta, the Supreme Commander of Legal Airbase guarding our skies from greedy Oligarch pirates.

You see, TV Franchise or media business is among the most vital industries in any country. They can make or break a country. 

TV is a very powerful tool. It's a double edge sword. Media company can unite or divided a nation. The information they broadcast have vital impact to the views, opinions and decisions of the people.

That was the reason why Congress with more than 300 members has the primary powers to grant TV or media franchise. This kind of business cannot be granted to just any Tom, Dick and Harry who wants to make profit out of it. 

As uncle Ben rightly phrased: "With great powers, comes great responsibility.



Now here come ABS-CBN, fresh from being deprived of a TV Franchised by Congress due to various constitutional and legal violations announcing merger and partnership with TV-5. 

They flaunt with confidence of having the right to do it as a matter of business. They have a legion of lawyers and consultants studying and assuring what they are doing is perfectly legal. Any ham-and-egger politicians will not dare challenge two oligarchs wanting to do business, right?

Then the Lion growls! 

Cong. Dante Marcoleta spoke with legal clarity that what our laws directly prohibits cannot be done indirectly. Cong. Dante Marcoleta even cited specific articles of TV franchise just to remind ABS-CBN and TV-5 that a Franchise is a law in itself with certain parameters and conditions to comply.

Any 3rd year law student understood the legal principles Cong. Dante cited. Every decent and fair minded lawyer know that the merger between two media giants violates the TV-5 Franchise.

The brilliant lawmaker in Marcoleta simply thrown the Wakizashi (knife use for Hara-kiri) to the legal team of the media giants. They cannot afford to fight the Lion who knows his stuff and fears no one. Not in the halls of Congress.

Hara-kiri was the right thing to do. Marcoleta might find holes in TV-5 ownership and sink the boat for good. Too risky, MVP must have realized.

Our country needs more lawmakers like Marcoleta. Someone who is not only armed with deep legal knowledge, but ready to use them against anyone who dare mock our laws. I mean anyone.

Thank you Cong. Dante Marcoleta. May your tribe increase.
