FACELESS HUMANITY

We, most of us, are among the faceless majority of humanity in this cruel world. In the ages long past, life was already brutal enough ~ human life simply floated in the wind like just another fallen leaf, subject to luck or fate ~ it either found a good spot to land on the ground, to return its nutrients back into the soil to help nurture the young leaves (i.e., family and community) still needing sustenance in the tree of life; or it got blown off to who-knows-what hell awaited it . . . there to rot into oblivion uselessly or without any meaning at all to its existence (just another insignificant leaf) . . .

In the present, the world at large has gotten more complicated ~ euphemistically called "modern" and more cosmopolitan or sophisticated. But still, fate or luck has not been kind at all to the ordinary human lives of this day and age ~ if anything, modern life has become even crueler to the weak and helpless. And in the future? While man's civilization cannot balance the needs of the individual persons with the 'demands' of the many (who are actually just controlled by the powerful few), the existence of human life will still follow the age-old prescription of the wild, "survival of the fittest" ~ or the law of the jungle, which is "kill or be killed" whenever push comes to shove . . .

Politics have always been the real arbiter of life in the cruel world of mankind's existence ~ ever since man gained self-awareness, and noticed that he had to co-exist with others, or perish a lonely demise ignominiously forgotten (as if he never even existed). Politics uses all kinds of tools ~ usually economic resources (wealth and privilege); power and authority (militaristic or any other kind); guile and cleverness (using ideals, intellect, or compassion and emotions) to sway and persuade people, even to the point of sacrificing themselves willingly "for the (right) cause"! But its arithmetic only has two functions that really work ~ the expedience of addition (toward enabling the "rule of the majority"), and/or the chaos of division (resulting in the rule of the most powerful, or most lucky ~ whatever). Its multiplicative function only seems to be useful toward unknown factors that usually turn out to be more and more problems later; and its subtractive capability only applies to the weak and helpless ~ who simply just perish and fade away, without anything at all left to even mark their passing . . .

What can ordinary people do? Democracy tells them they have the power of choice ~ to be able to select whichever evil seems more appropriate, or attractive, or less lethal. Authoritarianism dictates upon them what they should have, or not have, or not do, nor even dream of. Between those two cruel methodologies, politics is the grease that allows all kinds of people to do any kind of machination, limited only by their imagination ~ but it is always the weak and helpless, the anonymous and insignificant ~ who get the short (or perhaps the pointed) end of the stick, and thereby we perish with nary a kind thought or memory of what our lives meant or even if any of it really mattered. What only matters in the end is what politics glorify and immortalize . . .

Well, this is just another pointless rambling, #pagmaytime ~ because even though we are just weak and helpless, being ordinary souls not even worth a damn, yet we on our own still manage to damn ourselves into our very own living hells, anyway or anyhow ~ even without the help of any kind of stupid politics! So that's why life is funny; we either get cooked in our own juices in the frying pan (thanks to politics), or we can jump off of it ~ straight into the fire of our own short-sightedness or shortcomings, or perhaps we were just fated to have short lives . . .
