Noynoy clearly did when during the 2010 Luneta hostage crisis, he refused to answer the calls of HK Chief Executive Donald Tsang for the stupid reason that the latter's public position was lesser than his, therefore not worthy of speaking to. Several lapses denied the lives of 8 HK tourists by the hostage taker who was a police officer, and the ill-equipped and clumsy rescue operation. The entire episode was observed and directed by Noynoy together with Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim from a nearby Chinese restaurant. The Chinese were infuriated by Noy's refuel to take their frantic telephone calls, his unsympathetic demeanor during his site visit smiling like a tourist and seen by the Chinese people over live television, and to top it all, his haughty refusal to apologize at all to the People's Republic of China. Despite all these, Aquino's failure was approved by Filipinos as reflected on approval surveys. This hostage crisis set the stage and mindset of both countries that led to the Scarborough shoals standoff in 2012. Here, the clumsy handling of the standoff by Noynoy and his men led to the loss of the shoals to China when he ordered the Navy to turnaround and leave the area while Chinese vessels stayed put. Then on 2014, Aquino approved EDCA. Duterte as Presidente in 2016 moves to cool the heated relations with China. Now, on 2023, Marcos expands EDCA. EDCA is now the issue. Is militarization the solution or bilateral negotiations? To think that American presence on Philippine soil will enhance our national security is downright naive because its enemies becomes ours. It is highly probable that the removal of EDCA will normalize our relations with China. China's interest is to bring Taiwan back to its fold because it belongs to them. It's their internal family affair between father and prodigal son. It's US meddling that's muddling the situation. Why then should we play host for their lust to interfere? We must be so stupid.
