THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE

DIANA AMAMIO ANZALONE:
"Our pride “Chocolate Hills” considered by foreign tourists as one of the many wonders of the world and supposedly protected and preserved, is now corrupted by local politicians allowing the construction of this resort! This will eventually destroy the scenic beauty of the area if allowed and continued!😠🙄 This should be stopped immediately!😠" - 14 March 2024

Her reaction to Philippine Star article on BOHOL CHOCOLATE HILLS

'IT DESTROYS THE BEAUTY OF NATURE'

This was the concern of some netizens in the comments section of an adventurer's post which featured a resort located at the center of Chocolate Hills in Bohol.

Called Captain's Peak, the resort has a rectangular swimming pool attached with slides, and a few umbrellas providing shade for visitors. Cemented steps and other decorations are also installed in the area.

This, however, did not sit well with netizens who saw the video.

"Not a good idea. It destroys the beauty of nature, specifically the iconic Chocolate Hills. So sad," one netizen commented.

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!" another said. (Screenshots/Ren The Adventurer)

"It took  many years (thousands?, millions? Eons? )  by mother nature to form into these beautiful hills. Let us take good care of mother nature. Let us respect it." ~Grace Celeste Chan Abbu, 14 March 2024

THE CHOCOLATE HILLS

The Chocolate Hills of Bohol in the Philippines 🇵🇭 is among the most famous natural wonders and top tourist destinations.

There are around 1776 hills spread over 50 square kilometers. The name "chocolate" is based on the naturally occurring brown colours of the grasses during dry season due to the absence or lack of rain.

In 1998, the National Committee on Geological Sciences declared the Chocolate Hills of Bohol a National Geological Monument because of its of its special characteristics, scientific importance, uniqueness, and high scenic value.

Proclamation No 1037 of 1997 declared Chocolate Hills as the Protected Area. This was signed by President Fidel Ramos.
