Rest in Peace: Filipino-Australian Woman Among Two Killed in NSW South Coast Collision
Two people have tragically died following a head-on collision along the NSW far south coast on Saturday, 17 May 2025.
The Philippine Times (Australia) can confirm that Filipino-Australian community member, Chak V Walker, 68, was the passenger who died at the scene. Her husband, who was driving their Toyota Corolla, also perished in the crash.
At approximately 1:45pm, emergency services were called to the Princes Highway in Kiah, about 15km south of Eden, where the Corolla had collided head-on with a Toyota Tarago. Officers from the South Coast Police District attended the scene alongside Fire and Rescue NSW, paramedics, and other emergency responders.
The driver of the Tarago, a 71-year-old woman, was airlifted in critical condition to Canberra Hospital. Her passenger, an 81-year-old man, was taken to Southeast Regional Hospital in Bega with suspected internal injuries.
Fire and Rescue NSW 286 Eden provided a report today:
“Multiple first responder agencies attended the serious crash and that the Princes Highway remained closed for an extended period as police established a crime scene. Specialist police units continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from speculation or sharing potentially distressing commentary online while investigations are ongoing. NSW Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or phone footage from the area to contact Eden Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Please take care and stay safe.”
Philippine Times writer Rado Gatchalian posted a tribute this evening:
“Just letting you know of this tragic and saddest news that our friend Ate Chak V Walker and her husband died from this recent accident. Truly devastating. Days ago she even commented on my post. Ate Chak is a kind and generous person. This accident reminds us all that in one snap of fingers we’re gone. May we all cherish our lives while we’re still here. RIP Ate Chak and to her husband…”
