Soliloquies at The Hague
By Jasmin O. Egan
I. THE LEADER
In foreign halls where silence walks,
A voice once roared now softly talks
A name entrenched in every heartbeat,
In our hearts, where pain and struggle meet.
He walked with fire beneath his tread,
The fearless one whom tyrants dread.
Not for himself, but for the land,
He bore the storms with steady hand.
Rodrigo stood when others fled,
He fought for rice, for roofs, for bread.
And now the winds in the Netherlands cry—
Where is the man who dared defy?
II. THE BOSS
He was no king in marble halls,
But “Boss” to those in shanty walls.
He cracked a joke, he shared a drink,
He saw the soul behind the stink.
With iron word and gravel tone,
He built a strength we called our own.
He listened close, he struck down wrong,
And in his quiet, we grew strong.
A man of dust, of flame, of clay,
Whose every word could light the way—
To those he served with bleeding pride,
He was the Boss, our Mentor and Guide.
III. THE FATHER OF A NATION
No crown, no robe, no throne of gold,
Just love too fierce, too pure to hold.
He scolded us, then held us tight—
Our Father, standing through the night.
Through every war, through every tear,
He taught us how to lose our fear.
He bore the hate, the lies, the pain,
To shield his children from the rain.
He kissed Marawi’s ground with heavy eyes,
And watched our flag begin to rise.
And though he’s now far, the skies still flame
With every prayer whispered in his name.
IV. BACK HOME TO STAY
Countless nights, endless cries,
Each day without him, slower dies.
The Hague is cold, its walls austere,
But memory keeps him burning here.
We wait, we watch, we light the flame,
We write in silence, speak his name.
For justice walks, though oft delayed,
And truth, like dawn, cannot be swayed.
So here we stand, not bowed, not broken,
With all our love still unspoken.
And in our hearts, the dream still lives:
That one day, fate at last forgives.
That one day, justice finds its way—
And brings Rodrigo Duterte home to stay.
