BENGUET: LOCAL HERO

In La Trinidad, a town in Benguet, Philippines, a taxi driver named Michael Aliping became a local hero. While driving during heavy rain on September 8, he noticed children stranded in knee-deep floodwaters in Barangay Puguis. Without hesitation, he stopped his car and rescued three students — one of whom nearly slipped into a canal — carrying them to safety. 

Aliping said his decision was simply because he has a child himself and could not ignore their danger. His act of kindness sparked praise online, reminding people how everyday courage can have a big impact. The incident highlights the serious flood risk in the region and the importance of quick action during emergencies.
