ASEAN salutes PRRD
When the image of former President Rodrigo Duterte was on full display on the background LED screen just as his successor came forward, it was a message that reverberated throughout the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
It was a slap not only on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. when ASEAN gave an unmistakable salute to PRRD. It is also a rejection of the pathetic narrative of the elite, religious, academe and radical left accusing PRRD of crimes against humanity.
BBM has become a pariah among our neighbors but the religious and the so-called intellectuals don’t seem to mind - as long as PRRD is locked behind bars.
As most right-thinking individuals know by now, BBM - and by extension, his cabal - don’t seem to notice or care. It is as if they have lost all sense of shame. Insensitivity, like callousness, can be contagious.
To them, hatred and bias are what matters.
Bahala na kung sira ang bayan. Bahala na kung kaliwat-kanan ang nakawan. Bahala na kung hindi na umiiral ang batas.
What matters to them is that PRRD is languishing in jail. Never mind if it is turning out to be the biggest crime committed by the Marcos administration. Never mind if we have become the laughingstock of our generation for surrendering no less than a former head of state to a court that has no jurisdiction over him.
Without too much ado, the message was loud and clear: ASEAN leaders stand by one who made not just his country but the region proud during his watch.
Sadly, those who fancy themselves the best and the brightest don’t seem to mind, let alone be overcome by shame or guilt.
Right at @that moment, the bond that unites the ASEAN as an emerging region was on full display.
Except one. The tailender.
No wonder the Philippines is the worst performing currency in Southeast Asia.
