EALA ADVANCES AFTER GAUFF RETIRES IN BNP PARIBAS OPEN CLASH
Filipina tennis star Alex Eala advanced to the next round of the women’s singles at the BNP Paribas Open after American standout Coco Gauff retired due to injury early in the second set of their Round of 32 encounter.
Eala had already taken control of the match by winning the opening set, 6–2, before Gauff was forced to stop play with the Filipina leading 2–0 in the second set.
The win sends the 20-year-old Filipino rising star into the Round of 16 of the prestigious tournament, marking another milestone in her campaign against one of the top-ranked players on the tour.
Prior to the matchup, the clash was widely anticipated as a rematch between the two, with Gauff entering the tournament as one of the top seeds. However, the American was unable to continue the match after sustaining an injury.
The Filipina now awaits her next opponent as she continues her impressive run in the tournament.
