DR. EMILY MAROHOMBSAR

By Mr. Polycarbonate Villagracia-Dingal

While I was Dr. Emily Marohombsar's student in MSU (English subjects) I can rate her 10 (highest rating) as teacher. As administrator, she was also the best administrator of MSU where i was a member of the faculty in the College of Agriculture. Has not heard of anything bad about her decision as President of Mindanao State University. She left MSU with a very clean records. . .

DR. HADJA SITTIE NURLAYLAH "EMILY" MAROHOMBSAR
First woman president of Mindanao State University

She built the classroom and the peace table alike.
Her name means "Light of the Night" — and for Muslim Mindanao, that is exactly what she was.

Sharing this full-length legacy research feature on 𝗗𝗿. 𝗛𝗮𝗱𝗷𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗮𝗵 "𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆" 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗯𝘀𝗮𝗿 (رَحِمَهَا ٱللَّٰهُ) — the first woman to lead Mindanao State University, the first Moro woman to sit at the official GRP-MILF peace negotiating table, and one of the most quietly transformative figures in the history of Muslim Mindanao.

She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Philippine Women's University. She studied at Harvard. She built MSU's international partnerships with BIMP-EAGA nations. She mentored generations of Bangsamoro women who went on to lead classrooms, clinics, courtrooms, and communities.

💬 To the Bangsamoro community, to MSU alumni, to everyone who believes that education is the most powerful form of peace — this one is for you.

Dr. Emily Marohombsar did not need a revolution. She needed a classroom, a desk, and an unshakeable sense of purpose. The rest followed.

May her story be told, retold, and never forgotten. 🤲
