SCARE TACTICS OF THE US
During the Vietnam war, the US government came up with its ‘Domino theory’ enunciated by US Secretary of State John Foster Dulles which was if South Vietnam fell, it would be followed by other SE Asian countries falling like dominoes to communism. After South Vietnam fell and the Americans hurriedly left Saigon, did North Vietnam invade neighbouring countries in SE Asia? The American ‘Domino theory’ was used as a scare tactic to justify US intervention in South Vietnam. When South Vietnamese President Diem was no longer useful, the US staged a coup to topple him.
The same scare tactic was used by the US against Russia to obtain NATO Western European members to support Ukraine’s President Zelensky. The US said if Russia wins the war in Ukraine, the Russian bear would march and take over other countries in Europe like Poland, Germany, the Baltic States, and the Scandinavian countries. Those who know Putin knew this was plain nonsense. Documents now show that Zelensky was enticed by a promise that Ukraine would join NATO thus provoking Russia to invade Ukraine. It had been the US government’s strategy all along to expand NATO up to the Russian border after the Soviet Empire collapsed and Zelensky, a comedian, was naive enough to serve as the US proxy to fight Russia. When Putin decided to invade Russia, he intended to limit his objective to taking Eastern Ukraine, which contained a large number of Ukrainians of Russian origin who were being persecuted by the Azov neo-Nazis, to be a buffer zone between Russia and NATO. Russia and Ukraine came close to signing a peace agreement until the White House sent British Prime-Minister Boris Johnson to order Zelensky not to sign that peace agreement. So the war continued which suited the US military-industrial complex that reaped huge profits from that war. Never mind if Zelensky’s army suffered 500,000 killed and wounded or that Ukraine was destroyed and its economy decimated. Black Rock, the foremost American conglomerate, assured Zelensky it would finance Ukraine’s reconstruction in exchange for its oil and gas resources. At the recent Summit in Switzerland, Zelensky and NATO again rejected Putin’s peace offer leaving Russia no option but to march now to Kiev, Ukraine’s capital, and topple Zelensky.
The same scare tactic was applied to Bongbong Marcos by US propaganda that China would invade the Philippines. The US was looking for a proxy to fight China and to give it access to EDCA bases in the Philippines that would be used as platforms to attack China in event of war over Taiwan which US President Biden vowed to defend. Bongbong was naive enough to accept by offering more EDCA bases to the US. I had warned in my postings that it was a trap.
The Americans suspected Cory of hesitating to renew the lease of the US naval base in Subic and that triggered the coups against her. When FVR succeeded Cory, the Americans wanted Subic back. I was FVR’s presidential assistant at the time and had mentioned it to him. We reached a compromise that placated the Americans. When Duterte took office, I was pleased he adopted an independent foreign policy of being neutral which I had always urged since the time of FVR. By adopting such a policy, Duterte had an insurance policy. US President Obama treated him with kids gloves even when Duterte told him to go to hell. China’s Jinping and Russia’s Putin had a great respect for Duterte. Trump understood Duterte’s position and did not object. In fact, he praised Duterte and told his side that “Duterte is the right man for the Philippines.” Jinping, Putin, Trump, and Duterte got along well because they were all nationalists putting their country’s interest first. They understood each other because the four disliked liberals. This is why Bongbong Marcos, known for his liberal and globalist ideas, is not respected by them. Even ASEAN leaders do not agree with Bongbong’s hard stance on China. They don’t want a war in their backyard.
Bongbong’s problem is not only his wife connected to Philippine liberals connected to American liberals in the US Democratic Party. Many of his liberal advisers, recommended by his wife, live in a time warp. They are disconnected to a changing world where nationalism and conservatism are gaining ground over liberalism and globalism like in South America and Western Africa, and soon, in Europe judging by the results of the recent election to the European Parliament. The forthcoming national elections in Britain, France, Germany, Poland, will confirm if there is a trend among European voters to move from the Center-Left (liberals and leftists) to the Right and Extreme-Right (nationalists and conservatives).
A movement away from liberalism and globalism will not augur well for Bongbong Marcos who risks being marginalized on the world stage. It could well determine whether he will survive his term of office, particularly if Trump returns to the White House and reaches an accomodation with Russia and China on global peace. He could be the victim of a tradeoff just as Zelensky will undoubtedly be. In my previous postings since way back, I had raised the possibility of such developments materializing in a changing world. Modesty aside, many of my predictions turned out to be accurate. It is why I kept insisting that the Uniteam focus on meritocracy than returning political favors in making key appointments to government. Sadly, many of Bongbong’s closest supporters have turned against him because he ignored this advice, leaving it to his wife to decide appointments that are poor in quality and more focused on linining their pockets than serving the people. I had always said government must be composed not only of men and women based on their record of achievements, regardless of political color, but, more important, who are God-fearing. I had suggested some time ago, that a starting point would be a new Executive Secretary to replace the present one, Lucas Bersamin, who has outlived his usefulness being unable to manage the Executive Office which Imee Marcos agrees with me has become a den of demons. Bongbong needs an Executive Secretary able to resist the interference and demands of his strong-willed and ambitious wife who has no business running the government.
