Marcos Jr. Is Crumbling: A Desperate Tyrant Purging His Own Government
By OPTIC Politics DEPO | March 1, 2025
Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s demand for mass courtesy resignations from officials under his administration is not a sign of strength—it is a desperate, flailing act of a leader who has lost control. This reckless purge is not about reform, efficiency, or governance; it is a blatant admission of failure, a confession that his own government is falling apart under the weight of its incompetence, corruption, and cowardice.
This is the behavior of a man drowning in his own political mess, clawing at anything and anyone to stay afloat. It reeks of paranoia, betrayal, and insecurity—hallmarks of a leader who has lost the trust of his own people and his own government. Marcos Jr. is not tightening his grip on power; he is exposing his weakness, his fear, and his inability to lead.
A Government on the Verge of Implosion
No stable government—no truly effective and confident leader—would gut its own bureaucracy midterm during a campaign period, with multiple cases before the Supreme Court, and a looming impeachment trial of the Vice President. Marcos Jr.’s government is in free fall, and this purge only accelerates the collapse.
Demanding mass resignations on such a scale is not governance; it is a political massacre, a desperate attempt to eliminate potential dissenters before they can turn against him. It is a calculated, fear-driven maneuver to silence voices that refuse to blindly serve his interests. But this is not strength—it is the cowardice of a ruler terrified of his own shadow.
Purging the Government to Save His Own Skin
Let’s be clear: this is not about reform or good governance. If Marcos Jr. truly wanted to fix his administration, he would have started by removing the corrupt officials he himself enabled, dismantling his family’s political dynasty, and putting an end to the incompetence that has defined his presidency. But that is not what this is about. This purge is designed to protect himself and his cronies from the growing political and legal firestorm surrounding his government.
With Supreme Court cases piling up, an impeachment trial against the Vice President, and a disastrous economic record, Marcos Jr. is desperately trying to clear out anyone who might stand in his way. He is not governing—he is plotting, scheming, and betraying even those within his own ranks.
The Never-Ending Blame Game: Filipinos No Longer Believe Marcos Jr.
Marcos Jr. has been in power for three years, yet he still clings to the same tired excuse: blaming the previous administration for the mess he refuses to clean up. He claims that this mass resignation stunt is part of his commitment to “fix the problems left behind”, but Filipinos are no longer buying his lies. The country has given him time, power, and resources, and yet the only thing he has delivered is failure.
It is no longer Duterte’s administration that is failing—it is Marcos Jr.’s alone. The economic crisis, the corruption scandals, the failed policies, the betrayal of national interests—these are all on him now. He can no longer pass the blame. The people know where it belongs: squarely on his shoulders.
A President Who Fears His Own People
Marcos Jr. wants a government that is not just loyal, but blindly obedient—a government of puppets, not public servants. This mass resignation stunt is a clear warning: question him, displease him, or refuse to bend the knee, and you are gone. But this is not how a democracy works—this is how tyrannies crumble.
The Filipino people are watching, and they see a weak, paranoid leader whose only response to crisis is to purge, silence, and consolidate power. This is the same Marcos playbook that led to the downfall of his father: the arrogance of a dynasty that believes it can rule through fear, intimidation, and deception.
But history has taught us that the people’s anger is stronger than any dictator’s fear. Marcos Jr. can demand all the resignations he wants, but he cannot erase the truth: his presidency is collapsing, his credibility is gone, and his days in power are numbered.
